NYSEG/RG & E Statement Regarding Home Inspections

NYSEG/AVANGRID RG&E Statement:

Friday July 17 2020 3:26:07PM

Subject: Gas line safety inspection concerns

Good afternoon,

We have been informed that some residents have expressed concerns regarding visits from field inspectors asking for access to homes and businesses in order to perform indoor gas safety line inspections. Some residents have also contacted their local police department.

On June 15th we announced that the company would begin a phased approach to resuming customer-facing work that was delayed due to the COVID-19 pandemic. The work will include indoor gas line safety inspections, which state regulations require the companies to complete. The inspections will assess the condition of the service line to detect gas leakage as well as check for corrosion on all exposed piping connected to the natural gas meter inside the homes and home or businesses. The inspection takes approximately 20 minutes to complete and it will not be necessary for customers to interact closely with our inspectors. As the postponed work resumes, we will continue to follow U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention best practices and recommendations and adhere to all applicable state requirements and guidelines to keep customers and employees safe. Please note that the inspectors will have badges identifying them as NYSEG or RG&E employees and contractors.

I am attaching the press release that was sent on June 15th which addresses this and other face-to-face company interactions that the company is resuming. I am also including a press release that was sent on October 17, 2019 that provides greater detail about the required gas line work.

Finally, I’ve included template social media posts to use at your disposal, should you wish to post to help raise awareness of the inspections. RG&E and NYSEG will continue to share awareness posts on our social channels as well.

  • Facebook: Please be advised that RG&E and NYSEG have resumed some customer-facing work that was delayed due to the COVID-19 pandemic. This work includes indoor gas line safety inspections, which state regulations require the companies to complete. All inspectors will have badges identifying them as NYSEG or RG&E employees and contractors and will follow CDC best practices and recommendations. Learn more at www.rge.com or www.nyseg.com.

  • Twitter: Please be advised: RG&E and NYSEG have resumed some customer-facing work that was delayed by COVID-19, including indoor gas line safety inspections. All inspectors will have badges identifying them as NYSEG or RG&E employees and contractors. Learn more: www.rge.com or www.nyseg.com

Thank you in advance for sharing this information. Have a great weekend.

Hunter Safety Courses Online

DEC ANNOUNCES NEW ONLINE HUNTER EDUCATION COURSE FOR NEW YORK HUNTERS

Hunter Ed Course Available Starting April 15 Prior to Start of Turkey Season
The New York State Department of Environmental Conservation (DEC) today announced that a new online hunter education course will be available on April 15, for first-time hunters who want to hunt during New York’s turkey hunting season. Turkey hunting season runs from May 1-31, and youth turkey hunting season for New Yorkers 12 to 15 years old is April 25-26.
DEC’s Hunter Education Program (HEP) is partnering with Kalkomey Enterprises, a company that specializes in hunter education, to create this online course that can be completed in six to eight hours. The course is available to individuals 11 and older. Students can complete the course from a computer, tablet, or smart phone at any time. Visit  https://www.hunter-ed.com/newyork/ to learn more or to sign up.

The curriculum for the online course is identical to what is taught in the traditional classroom course. Topics such as firearm safety, tree stand safety, hunting ethics, wildlife conservation, and New York State hunting laws and regulations are all covered. Students who successfully complete the online course and pass the final exam will receive a hunter education certificate and can purchase a hunting license from a DEC license issuing agent such as hardware stores and large retailers like Walmart.

The cost of the course is $19.95. The online course will be available through June 30, 2020, at https://www.hunter-ed.com/newyork/

Traditional, classroom-based courses will resume at a future date. Visit the Hunter Education Program web page for updates and more information  https://www.dec.ny.gov/outdoor/92267.html.

Board of Elections Update

Hello Everyone

We realize this has been a trying time for everyone.  We just wanted to update you on where things are with the elections and petitions.

The Governor moved the petition filing date up to March 19 & 20.  Some candidates that had circulated designating petitions were not aware of this change and did not get their petition filed in time.   They have 2 options at this point either run on an independent line or do a write in campaign.

Attached is the latest executive order signed by the Governor that states that all circulation, filing of independent petitions are postponed until further notice.

Our Office is closed to the public with only minimum staff working.  We can be reached by email or by phone.

Also, all registered voters will be receiving a blue card in the mail from our office.  This is done by law, it is to verify that a person lives where they are registered.   If someone does not receive a card they should call our office and we can look them up and see why they did not get one, so we can make sure everyone is registered at the correct location so they can vote.

If you have any questions give us a call.
