We have been informed that some residents have expressed concerns regarding visits from field inspectors asking for access to homes and businesses in order to perform indoor gas safety line inspections. Some residents have also contacted their local police department.
On June 15th we announced that the company would begin a phased approach to resuming customer-facing work that was delayed due to the COVID-19 pandemic. The work will include indoor gas line safety inspections, which state regulations require the companies to complete. The inspections will assess the condition of the service line to detect gas leakage as well as check for corrosion on all exposed piping connected to the natural gas meter inside the homes and home or businesses. The inspection takes approximately 20 minutes to complete and it will not be necessary for customers to interact closely with our inspectors. As the postponed work resumes, we will continue to follow U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention best practices and recommendations and adhere to all applicable state requirements and guidelines to keep customers and employees safe. Please note that the inspectors will have badges identifying them as NYSEG or RG&E employees and contractors.
I am attaching the press release that was sent on June 15th which addresses this and other face-to-face company interactions that the company is resuming. I am also including a press release that was sent on October 17, 2019 that provides greater detail about the required gas line work.
Finally, I’ve included template social media posts to use at your disposal, should you wish to post to help raise awareness of the inspections. RG&E and NYSEG will continue to share awareness posts on our social channels as well.
Thank you in advance for sharing this information. Have a great weekend.

Good Afternoon, Steuben County Public Health has been actively monitoring the spread of COVID-19 and following guidelines provided by the New York State Department of Health, Governor Cuomo, and CDC. In an abundance of caution, we are strongly recommending that municipalities consider limiting, postponing or canceling mass gatherings and events. Please note, there are NO current cases of COVID-19 in Steuben County. We are hoping to slow or prevent the spread of the disease and its impact to our residents. Please see the attached press release outlining our recommendations. Additionally, we held a press conference today that is available for viewing on our Facebook page: www.facebook.com/SCNYPublicHealth<http://www.facebook.com/SCNYPublicHealth>.
