Lindleytown Birthday Celebration Planning Meeting

The July meeting for planning  Lindley’s 225th birthday party  was quite productive. Since then the group (–especially Chairperson  Brenda Criss ) have been busy working on the to-do lists that go with planning such an event. It promises to be afternoon of interesting and fun activities for the young and the old.

Lindley residents will be celebrating the beginnings of one of Steuben County’s first real settlements. (Painted Post/Corning had a few folks living in that area, but there was no community as well planned as Colonel Lindsley’s –”Lindleytown “ in 1790 ).

The afternoon will be a place to renew old friendships and to meet /greet new neighbors.
After this coming meeting, there will  be a better idea of who, what, and when we can publicize.

If you are interested in Lindley’s past history and would like to be a part of the afternoon’s activities, we hope to see you on the 13th.

Historical Society Meeting June 25th at 7:00pm, Lindley Town Hall

The Lindley-Presho Historical Society will meet 7 P.M..Thursday June 25th at the Lindley Town Hall .

Leon Golder of the Patterson Inn in Corning will present a program on Benjamin Patterson –for whom the Inn is named.

The program is of interest to Lindley residents as Benjamin’s younger brother , Robert was an early Lindley resident and land owner.

Perhaps, we will learn more about Robert Patterson’s  connection to Lindley.  Where did he live??  One old Steuben County History states that he and David Cook brought back the first  apple trees to Lindley.  Wonder if there are any apple tree descendants remaining ???
Hope to see you there!

Hope we have a good audience for Leon.  Hopefully, he will, also,  be the guest Blacksmith at   Lindleytown Days Sept.19th.at the Lindley Town Hall.

We have had an inquiry about the remains of  the “old”Presho bridge.  Any ideas or input of location up after the 1946 flood?

Catherine Pierce, Historian

Lindley Historical Society Meeting April 23rd.

The April meeting for the Lindley –Presho Historical Society meeting will be held on
Thursday April 23rd –7 P.M at the Town Hall.
Since Lindley will celebrate it’s 225th birthday in June, several events are being planned and discussed at this meeting .
The first will Armed Forces Day on Sunday May 17th at 2 P.M. to honor our Veterans
The Tioga Pa.Honor Guard will conduct a ceremony honoring all branches of  military service. This will be the 7th year of their helping us honor our local veterans.
The Woodhull Community Band will be here to play Patriotic music.
For lunch before the ceremony –the Lindley-Presho Firemen are having their annual Chicken Bar B-Q    Noon- til
Refreshments will be served following the ceremony and hopefully some of Lindley’s bakers will help furnish cookies, etc.
Brenda Criss will make her famous punch and as speaker  will talk about one of Lindley’s first settlers --- David Cook-Revolutionary War soldier.
The Town Board has named Brenda Criss as Chairman of Old Home Days  to be held sometime in late September/early October to celebrate the 225 years of Lindley’s existence.  Since  Brenda chaired the 1990 - 200 year birthday celebration, her experiences  will be helpful in planning  the 225 year celebration .
We hope to keep it simple and less work for all those who would like to participate .
Everyone is welcome to attend and learn the details. The Historical Society has no dues-no officers- We just share local history and  sponsor community events.

Historical Society Meeting

Hello Everyone interested in Lindley History ,

The Lindley- Presho Historical Society will come out of hibernation on Wednesday March 11,2015   7 P.M  at the Middletown (Addison ) Museum at 41 Main Street---Addison,N.Y.
The meeting is free and open to the public.

The guest speaker will be Lindley’s own native son –Durland Weale. Durland who  grew up in Lindley is a member of the LPHS. He has donated several items to the Lindley Historian files and has presented several interesting programs at our meetings.  As one of our few remaining “youngsters of his generation” , he has been very helpful in adding to the Lindley History files.

The topic of his program on the 11th will the Depression Years in Addison. (*the Great depression occurred after the collapse of the stock market on October 29th,1929 and was known as” Black Tuesday “. It affected the United States and the World Economy.) (*Ref.announcement in Addison Post February 28, 2015.)

If you haven’t visited the Middletown Museum( in Addison )and enjoyed their exhibits, this will be a great opportunity to see it and to hear Durland’s memories of Depression Days.  Without a doubt , the effects in Addison were, also, felt by  Lindley residents.

Let’s surprise Durland and have a good representation from Lindley –where he lived during the Depression years.( I won’t give his age..)
Think warm weather --

Kitty

Tax Cap Rebate information

For anyone interested in the Tax Freeze credit, they can go to the link above and check to see if they were eligible for a credit and whether or not a check was mailed to them.  The average tax rebate was about $25 and was determined solely by the school district’s willingness/ability to stay within the mandated tax cap. Starting in 2015, the tax freeze credit applies to municipalities as well.
